AG Pruitt charges counselor with Medicaid fraud

Attorney General Scott Pruitt’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit filed charges Tuesday in Oklahoma County District Court against a self-employed Lawton counselor.

Shannon Rose, 46, was charged with three counts of Medicaid fraud and one count of identity theft. According to the charges, Rose billed more than 860 fraudulent claims in excess of $78,000 to the Oklahoma Health Care Authority. Rose allegedly was providing claims for services she was unqualified to perform such as intravascular heart surgery, moderate conscious sedation and medication management. During interviews with AG investigators, Rose’s clients denied having these services performed.  Rose also allegedly submitted claims in the amount of $5,454 for services performed for six months after the death of the Medicaid recipient.  Officers from the Lawton Police Department joined in the arrest.

If convicted, Rose faces up to 14 years in prison and fines upwards of $350,000.

The AG’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is the only Oklahoma law enforcement agency dedicated to the investigation and prosecution of Medicaid fraud. The Unit helps raise awareness as well as investigates and prosecutes provider fraud and abuse of residents in Medicaid-funded nursing homes.
