Benghazi Special Investigation begins
House Republicans moved on two fronts Friday to find answers on Benghazi, with Speaker John Boehner announcing a special committee to investigate and a key panel subpoenaing Secretary of State John Kerry to testify.
Representative James Lankford (R-Ok) Thursday questioned a panel of witnesses at the House Oversight Committee's hearing entitled, “Benghazi, Instability, and a New Government: Successes and Failures of U.S. Intervention in Libya.” Today, Lankford joined Boehner in support of a Special Investigation.
Yesterday Lankford questioned Brigadier General Robert Lovell, U.S. Air Force (RET.), who agreed with Lankford’s assertion the U.S. did not do everything possible to protect our diplomats and facilities in Benghazi.
“As the most powerful country in the world, U.S. personnel stationed around the world should always feel confident that we have their backs—no matter where they are," said Lankford. "We have a duty to protect fellow Americans in hostile territories, and Americans abroad should feel comfortable we are going to take that duty seriously. Unfortunately, on September 11, 2012, nobody thought to call the U.S. military to protect Americans in Benghazi during the attack on the U.S. facility there. Our duty has now shifted to ensuring justice is carried out, and the Oversight Committee will not halt its investigation until our questions are answered and justice is served,” concluded Lankford.
Boehner, who had opposed a special investigation, announced today that the House will vote on establishing a select committee to investigate, on the heels of newly released emails that raised additional questions about the White House's response.
Republicans claimed those emails should have been released to Congress months ago, and Boehner noted those concerns prompted him to rethink the need for a select committee.
"Americans learned this week that the Obama Administration is so intent on obstructing the truth about Benghazi that it is even willing to defy subpoenas issued by the standing committees of the People's House. These revelations compel the House to take every possible action to ensure the American people have the truth about the terrorist attack on our consulate that killed four of our countrymen," he said in a statement.
"In light of these new developments, the House will vote to establish a new select committee to investigate the attack, provide the necessary accountability, and ensure justice is finally served."
Then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appears fully enraged by questions on Benghazi January 23, 2013 when asked about ascertaining whether the Benghazi terror attack was the result of a protest by Senator Ron Johnson. "What difference, at this point, does it make?" Clinton responded.
The difference it makes to many Americans is that on 9/11/12 terrorists in a well organized attack Administration Officials were warned could happen did take place and President Obama and the State Department covered-up then covered-up the cover-up so that Barack Obama could win another term as President of the United States of America - a violation of his sworn oath to protect and defend.
Four Americans were killed by terrorists that previously attacked our homeland on the same date decades before. Americans should be outraged. Now with the obvious cover-up, this event is worse than any violation of law by any president in history. This is evil and betrayal on an epic scale. Any politician, pundit or member of the press that suggests it is anything else is, by that act, complicit in the cover-up.
Breitbart.com posted audio from Hugh Hewitt's radio show on Thursday as commentator Mark Steyn weighed in on White House press secretary Jay Carney's performance on the Benghazi email as compared to his predecessors and how they handled adversity.
“I think as I said a couple of minutes ago, I think it’s a more serious cover-up than in the Nixon era,” Steyn said. “In the end, four people are dead. They knew the reason why they were dead within half an hour of this protest starting. They didn’t know those guys were dead, but they knew that there was a sustained terrorist assault on a U.S. diplomatic facility. And from that point, they began constructing the most despicable lies, including the President and the Secretary of State, Mrs. Clinton, the designated president-in-waiting, lying over the coffins of those four Americans when they came back to Andrews Air Force Base, lying to their relatives when Mrs. Clinton tells the bereaveds’ family that we’re going to find, we’re going to get that video maker, and we’re going to throw him in jail. Mrs. Clinton said that to the families of the bereaved.”
Obama spokesman Jay Carney
“There is…and we’re told, and it’s not just … Carney can do this, because Democrats and the court eunuchs in the American media have assured him and the President, and the Secretary of State, that it’s a big nothingburger. Ha, ha, Benghazi, if you say Benghazi to a Democrat, they laugh,” he continued. “Ha, ha, ha, ha. It’s nothing. Only Fox News and a couple of other freaky weirdos care about it.
"If the American people don’t care about four dead Americans, if they don’t care about the President and the Secretary of State, and the press secretary, and everyone else lying about those four dead Americans, if they don’t even care about them blaming it on this poor schlub in California... there was more firepower sent to arrest that nothing little video maker for some parole violation... than there was outside that facility in Benghazi.”
