Foundation swings for education
The 2nd annual “Swing for Education” benefit golf tournament will be held Friday, Sept. 4 at the Fountainhead Creek Golf Course in Checotah.
The tournament was created by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Higher Education Scholarship Foundation Program (HESFP) to raise money for scholarships to help Muscogee (Creek) students who attend post-secondary institutions. The scholarships can assist with tuition, books, fees, supplies and any cost related to seeking an education.
“This is the second year for the tournament and it is becoming a major fundraising event for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Higher Education Scholarship Foundation Program,” HESFP Administrative Assistant Nathan Barnett said. “We raised over $20,000 for the first tournament and had over 20 corporate/business sponsors, 100 players and participation of tribal officials.”
Early registration is recommended. Teams who pre-register will receive a free t-shirt.
The cost to play the four-person scramble is $400 and includes lunch, cart and green fees. Prizes will be awarded for 1st-3rd place teams, longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one.
In the event of rain cancellation, the tournament will be rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 11.
HESFP is a non-profit organization initiated in 2013 to help advance the education of Muscogee (Creek) citizens by raising funds for scholarships. The foundation’s activities are supported through donations by businesses and individuals.
All donations to the HESFP are tax deductible.
