Inhofe demands RFS repeal
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, today responded to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) release of the 2013 Renewable Fuel Standard volume mandates.
"Not surprisingly the Administration waited until Congress was out of town to make a major announcement about the ethanol mandate in our nation's gasoline supplies," said Inhofe.
"With this level of mandate, the President is ignoring the facts and forcing our fuel supply to hit the E10 blend wall. The President has chosen to put his environmental allies ahead of the millions of Americans who may face damaged engines and fuel infrastructure because of unsafe levels of ethanol in gasoline. Congress needs to repeal the broken renewable fuel standard,” Inhofe added.
Earlier this year, Sen. Inhofe introduced an amendment to the Senate farm bill (S. 954) that would allow states to opt-out of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and vowed to make RFS reform a priority.
In a letter last week, Sen. Inhofe joined other Senators in asking the Administration to waive volumes below 10 percent for 2014 so that Congress could examine long-term solutions for the burdensome RFS.
