Tulsa Youth Council Mayoral Debate

The Tulsa Youth Council will hold a Mayoral candidate discussion on Wednesday, Nov. 4th.

Candidates Democrat Tom Adelson, Republican Dewey Bartlett, and Independent Mark Perkins are scheduled to attend. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.  All Tulsa-area youth are also invited to attend, and discuss the issues most important to them.

The discussion is intended to focus upon each candidate’s vision for Tulsa’s future, and what each candidate will do during their four-year term as Mayor to make that vision a reality.  

“The central issue will be, ‘What will you do, as Mayor, to ensure Tulsa becomes a thriving city that attracts and maintains a successful young adult population?’” said Nick Doctor, Coordinator for the Tulsa Youth Council.

Each Mayoral candidate will have 20 minutes to speak, followed by a question-and-answer session from the audience.  Candidates are asked to refrain from any comments regarding their opponents, and instead focus upon their personal platforms.

The debate is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Tulsa Youth Council and Tulsa Public School district to actively engage Tulsa’s students in the local political process.  This event is being held in conjunction with a mock local election in Tulsa’s public high schools, and civics-based classroom lessons.
