Get Your Own Police Cruiser

If you ever wanted your own police cruiser, now's your chance. Something bigger? You can bid on a dump truck as well.

The city of Tulsa is auctioning off 200 vehicles as part of ongoing efforts to reduce the city's operating costs.

The auction will be Dec. 12 at the city's surplus property facility, 108 N. Trenton. That site is two blocks north and one block west of the I-244 and Utica Avenue intersection.

Vehicles up for bid include police cruisers, min vans and full-sized vans, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, as well as tractors, dump trucks, flat-bed trucks and other rolling stock.

“In the ongoing effort to reduce expenses and streamline processes for greater efficiency, I asked Fire Chief Allan LaCroix to lead a team of Purchasing and Equipment Management Department staff to identify vehicles that were not efficiently used and could be sold without impacting services,” said Mayor Kathy Taylor. "The result will be a leaner operation with reduced maintenance costs and lower fuel usage." 

Vehicles may be inspected on Friday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 12, the auction site will open at 8 a.m. and the auction begins at 10 a.m.

 Cash, Mastercards and Visa cards are accepted. Checks can be accepted only if accompanied by a letter of guaranty from the financial institution on which the check is drawn. Payment is required in full within one hour after the auction ends.

Sales are subject to applicable local and state taxes, unless a sales tax permit is provided with proof of regular engagement in the re-sale business only for items purchased. An Oklahoma Tax Commission auditor may be present.

No one under the age of 16 may be admitted onto the City surplus property facility grounds. Questions about the auction can be directed to the City of Tulsa’s Finance Department at 596-7233.
