Oilers take two on the road.
INDEPENDENCE, MO--It was a weekend that the Tulsa Oilers sorely needed, and they got it. Two wins and four crucial point are now theirs after two wins over the Missouri Mavericks on their home ice in Independence Missouri.
Friday nights game was pushed to a shootout after the Mavericks dominated most of the game. Late goals by Troy Riddle and TJ Caig sent the game into overtime and Aaron davis got the game winnier in the shootout frame. In Saturday’s contest it was all Tulsa with four different players scoring goals. Travis Banga, TJ Caig, Jim Henkemeyer and Adam Bartholomay all put the biscuit in the basket for the Oilers.
The four points garnered over the weekend put Tulsa back in the 5th and final playoff spot in the CHL North Conference, and put them three points shy of overtaking the Mississippi Riverkings in 4th position. In this weekend’s action the Colorado Eagles split their weekend set with the CHL South powerhouse Odessa Jackalopes, The Riverkings lost both of their games this weekend, and possibly the most surprising wins came from the revived Wichita Thunder, who beat Mississippi AND the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs this weekend. Rapid City, first in the Oilers conference, won both their games this weekend in Prescott Valley against the Arizona Sundogs.
The CHL trade deadling is Monday at 5pm and there has been no word as to whether or not Oilers coach Bruce Ramsay wilol make any roster moves. In the last week he did surprise many by waiving Kevin Armstrong, the goalie who had propelled his Muskegon Lumberjacks to the IHL championship round last season.
The Oilers will take the ice next on Tuesday night against the Colorado Eagles in the amazing BOK Center at 7:05 pm, they then travel to Allen, Texas to face the Americans in the Allen Events Center on Thursday night before returning to the BOK for a weekend set of home games against Mississippi and Amarillo. The Friday night game against the Riverkings will feature the Oilers wearing special jerseys that will honor the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer research foundation, with an auction immediately following the game.
All of the Oilers games can be heard online on the website of Z104.5 FM (edgetulsa.com) with Steve McCall providing the play-by-play action and tickets for all the Oilers remaining home games can be purchased at tulsaoilers.com, the BOK Center box office, and all Reasors locations.
