Coburn Joins President’s Deficit Commission
U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) released the following statement today regarding his appointment to President Obama’s deficit commission.
“I’m honored to serve on this commission and look forward to offering proposals to restrain the growth of government. The American people should realize, however, that the formation of a presidential deficit commission is an indictment of Congress and its inability to address our long-term fiscal challenges. Congress does not need to wait on this commission to begin making the hard choices needed to restrain spending and reduce the burden of debt on the next generation,” Dr. Coburn said.
“I hope this commission concludes it is time for politicians in Washington to make sacrifices. The American people are already sacrificing enough. Families should not be forced to pay higher taxes in order to help politicians avoid tough choices when the federal government is wasting at least $350 billion a year,” Dr. Coburn said.
