Drillers drop ONEOK Field debut.
TULSA, OK--The Tulsa Drillers were the victims of a shutout in their debut in the brand new ONEOK Field falling 7-0 to the Corpus Christi Hooks in front of a capacity crowd of 8,665 in the new downtown ballpark.
Country singer Tim McGraw, son of legendary relief pitcher Tug McGraw who himself was set to play a nearly sold-out show at the amazing BOK Center threw the first pitch and two F-16 fighter jets screamed overhead as the new era of Tulsa professional baseball began.
In the end it was a 6 run blitz by the Hooks that doomed the game in the late innings. The Drillers managed to hold a scoreless tie through four innings, but an excellent effort by Corpus Christi’s Sergio Perez was more than enough to keep the Drillers bats silent for most of the game.
Drillers pitcher Christian Friedrich turned in a solid effort, allowing only four hits in 6 innings and showed great promise by pitching his way out of a loaded bases situation near the middle of the game. The Hooks would belt 10 hits and Tulsa could only manage five on the night with one error.
The homestand continues Friday night as the Drillers will once again host the Hooks at ONEOK Field through next Tuesday night. Tickets are available to the Drillers ticket office at the stadium, by phone at 744-5901, or online at tulsadrillers.com.
