Coheed and Cambria to crash the Cain's
Coheed and Cambria, the progressive-rock band from New York that formed in 1995, is headed back to Tulsa. The group last visited Tulsa on February 23, 2009 as the opener for Slipknot at the BOK Center. This time they bring music from their concept albums to the Cain's Ballroom on Friday night.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. show that kicks off with openers Circa Survive and Torche.
The groups' concept albums reveal a science fiction storyline dubbed "The Amory Wars" that was written by lead singer Claudio Sanchez. Coheed and Cambria is currently touring in support of their recently released fifth studio album, Year of the Black Rainbow, which serves as a prequel to the first four albums in the story. The group derives its name from the two protagonists of the story, while their official logo, the Keywork, serves as a symbol of the Amory Wars universe.
Coheed and Cambria credits classic rock groups Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Police, Misfits, Queen and Thin Lizzy along with heavy metal superpower Iron Maiden as some of their influences. Even though several people have drawn a close comparison between Coheed and Cambria and Rush, the group has stated that they are not an influence.
In October, 2007 the band released Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow, which debuted at number six on the Billboard charts. Year of the Black Rainbow is currently charted at number five on the Billboard 200.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the door at the Cain's Ballroom.
