Clancy and Becker Named Academic All-Americans
University of Tulsa track and field seniors Caitlin Clancy and Alex Becker were named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans, as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Clancy earned first team honors and Becker was named to the second team.
Clancy was named to the first team after earning third team All-America honors last season and first team All-District VI honors for each of the last two years.
The senior from Tucson, Ariz., posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average in mechanical engineering and was named a Rhodes Scholar finalist in the fall of 2009. She finished her career as the school record holder in the indoor and outdoor pole vault and was a three-time all-C-USA selection.
Becker was named to the second team after earning Academic All-District First Team honors for the second time in her career back on June 3rd. She earned a 3.69 GPA in elementary education, and adds this award to a long list of career accomplishments.
The Guelph, Ontario native finished her career as the only six-time All-American in school history, an eight-time Conference USA individual champion and the school record holder in six events.
Clancy and Becker join John Beattie as the track and field team’s three selections to the prestigious ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America teams, after Beattie was named to the men’s second team on June 22nd.
