Tulsa Makes "Fittest List"
Saturday, 07 January 2006 Making a huge jump from last year’s ‘Fattest List’ by Men’s Fitness Magazine, the 2006 list from the same magazine ranks Tulsa as “14th Fittest City in the Nation.”
“I couldn’t be more pleased,” described Mayor LaFortune, “that Tulsa’s fitness level has improved so much that we’ve landed on the fittest list in America. This is great news for all Tulsans and will brighten our city’s image. Our new ranking also shows we’re on the right track with our Mayors’ Fitness Challenge initiative. Making the most fit list should motivate and inspire us even more to keep fit and healthy.”
The following is the fittest and fattest cities in America from the annual survey by Men's Fitness magazine, with cities in order of ranking. In parentheses is the 2005 ranking. An asterisk (*) denotes last year's ranking from the opposite list:

Tulsa’s new program, Mayors Fitness Challenge (MFC), promotes health and nutrition. Its coalition of partners is focused on bringing education awareness to Tulsans. Upcoming events and initiatives in the Tulsa area include the traditional Tulsa Run, Fit Fest, Get Fit Tulsa, the Route 66 Marathon, and many more.
