Shock acquires McCants, sends Hornbuckle to Minnesota
The Tulsa Shock pulled the trigger on one final trade today, coming in just hours before the WNBA trade deadline. The Shock completed a deal with the Minnesota Lynx that brings Rashanda McCants to Tulsa and sends Alexis Hornbuckle to the Lynx. Just five players remain from Tulsa's season opening roster.
McCants, a second-year 6'1" forward from North Carolina, saw action in 17 games for the Lynx this season, averaging 5.6 points per game. Hornbuckle, a 5'11" guard from Tennessee, averaged 5.8 points per game through 15 games for the Shock. Hornbuckle was the last direct link to last season's Detroit Shock team.
The trade is Tulsa's fourth during this season, all four trades involved the only players that were holdovers from the 2009 Detroit Shock roster.
The first came on May 27 when the Shock sent Shavonte Zellous to the Indiana Fever in exchange for a second round pick in 2011. On June 13 Tulsa received Tiffany Jackson from the New York Liberty in exchange for Plenette Pierson. On Friday the Shock sent Kara Braxton to the Phoenix Mercury for Nicole Ohlde and a first round draft pick.
The Shock are back in action tomorrow at the BOK Center when they square off with the Atlanta Dream at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the BOK Center box office, online, or by calling 599-WNBA.
