66ers complete D-League draft lottery
The Tulsa 66ers are another step closer to opening their 2010-11 NBA D-League season. The sixers participated in the D-League draft lottery on Tuesday during the league's annual coaches meetings in Dallas. Tulsa, fresh off of a runner-up finish and the best season in franchise history, will pick at the 13th position in the first round.
The Reno Bighorns won the lottery and will pick first in the eight-round serpentine format draft that will take place via teleconference from the league headquarters in New York on November 1. New Mexico, Maine, Texas and Springfield round out the top five.
"The lottery is always an exciting time because it signals the tip-off of a new NBA D-League season," said Chris Alpert, Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the league. "With the draft order in place, teams are one step closer to determining their opening day rosters for the 2010-11 season," he added.
The serpentine format alternates the order in each round of the draft. If a team picks first in the first round they will select last in the second round, then first in the third round. Sixteen teams will participate in the 2010-11 season.
In addition to the 13th pick in the first round, the 66ers will also select 20th, 45th, 52nd, 77th, 84th, 109th and 116th. Tulsa will open the season Friday, November 19 at Bakersfield. Their home opener is scheduled for Friday, November 26.
