Eagles hammer Oilers 4-1.
TULSA, OK--The Tulsa Oilers returned home for their second home game of the season against th Colorado Eagles Tuesday night after a road trip that saw the Oilers make a notch in every column of the CHL standings; a win in Wichita, a loss to the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs, and an overtime loss to the Bloomington Prairie Thunder.
The Oilers have not been very successful of late against the two-time CHL Champion Colorado Eagles, who sat at 3-1 and tied with Dayton and Bloomington for first place in the CHL’s Turner Conference. The Oilers had a record of 2-1-1 going into tonight’s game, in a tie with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for third place inj the CHL’s Berry Conference.
Aft6er a sleepy first period where the Oilers went 0-3 on the power play and were out shot by the Eagles 8-6, Kevin Ulanski would score at the 5:22 mark of the 2nd period off an assist by Riley Nelson. In that goal, it looked as if the Puck took a funny bounce off an Tulsa defender’s skate. Gary Steffes would put the Oilers on the board, tying the game at 13:10 of the period on an assist by Mike Beausoleil. The puck would take another odd bounce off of an Oilers defender’s skate blade as the Eagles would take the lead on a Scott May goal at 16:29.
With nearly 3 minutest to play Oilers captain Tyler Fleck and Eagles defenseman Chris Hau fought along the near boards and soon after that Riley Nelson would notch the game-winning goal for the Eagles at 16:58. They would add an empty-netter at 18:57 when Dayman Rycroft scored.
Colorado goalie Kyle Jones turned in a near perfect performance, stopping 18 of 19 shots. Tyler Sims stopped 21 of 25 shots for the Oilers. Both team were ineffective on the power play, the Oilers winding up 0-5 with the extra man and Colorado going 0-2.
