66ers wheel and deal as training camp nears
With the NBA D-League season just two weeks away, the Tulsa 66ers recently completed the league draft and added eight players to it's training camp roster. Tulsa selected Scottie Reynolds with the 13th pick of the first round on Monday evening. The 66ers rounded out their draft class with Perry Stevenson (20th), Josh Lomers (45th), Devin Sweetney (52nd), Mamadi Diane (77th), Brandon Brooks (84th), Marlon Jones (109th), and Michael Sturns (116th).
Reynolds was not a member of the 66ers very long, as the team announced on Tuesday that they had traded him to the Springfield Armor in exchange for a 2011 first round draft pick. Reynolds finished his college career as Villanova's second all-time leading scorer, garnering first team All-American honors from the Associated Press in his senior season.
Tulsa also sent Mustafa Shakur to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Tuesday, in exchange for Robert Vaden. Shakur averaged 19.2 points through 47 games with the 66ers last season. Vaden, the seventh overall pick in the D-League draft, was selected by the Charlotte Bobcats with the 54th pick in the 2009 NBA draft before the Oklahoma City Thunder acquired his rights. Vaden spent the 2009-10 season in Italy playing for Aget Imola, averaging 16.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 29 games.
"We are excited to add these individuals to our development program in Tulsa and look forward to the start of training camp next week," said Thunder Director of Minor League Operations and Basketball Technology Paul Rivers.
The 66ers open training camp this Sunday with back-to-back season-opening road games against the Bakersfield Jam on November 19 and 20. Tulsa's home opener against the Iowa Energy is set for a 7 p.m. tip-off on November 26 at the Tulsa Convention Center.
