Oilers bus burns en route to away game.
TULSA, OK-- The bus that the Tulsa Oilers hockey club use to travel to away games was consumed by flames on Friday morning while the team was en route to Independence, Missouri to play the Missouri Mavericks.
According to Steve McCall, the Oilers Media Relations Director and broadcaster, the emergency brake on the bus was left engaged and the resulting friction from highway driving on the brake pads caused the fire, which occurred near the Claremore exit on the Will Rogers Turnpike.
The bus was successfully evacuated and there were no injuries.
The team was able to continue on to Independence using a replacement bus and the game with the Mavericks was postponed to a later start time. McCall also said that the broadcast equipment used to broadcast the game over the internet was damaged, but fans can still tune in by loggin on to missourimavericks.com and listen to the Mavericks broadcast of the game.
The Oilers are beginning a four-game road trip that will take them to Missouri tonight, Mississippi to play the Riverkings tomorrow night and to next weekend's game in Colorado and Rapid City next weekend. They return to the amazing BOK Center on November 18 when they face the Allen Americans on November 18th.
