Cancer Sucks Incorporated has partnered with Cherokee Casino and Resort in Catoosa to host the Third Annual Handlebars and Hot Rods Casino Poker Run on May 13, 2006. The event is geared towards car enthusiasts and motorcyclists, but allows anyone with any kind of vehicle to be involved in this important fundraising effort.
All of the $25,000 raised at the poker run in 2005 was donated to the cancer research department at Oklahoma University and was matched by physicians at the school, making it a $50,000 donation. A $20 donation to cancer research is all it takes to be a part of this fun filled day.
Registration will begin at Cherokee Casino at 9:00 AM and last until noon before participants begin the journey to different destinations around Tulsa. Vehicles will travel to different stops to draw a playing card. The person with the highest hand at the end of the day will win $1,000 from Cherokee Casino.
Every stop will give away door prizes to lucky participants. Since the event will be held the day before Mothers Day, there will be one special gift for a lucky mom in the crowd. All participants are required to return to the casino no later than 3:30 to turn in their score cards.
Participants and guests will find some of the best custom motorcycle builders in the state displaying motorcycles inside the casino. A full day of entertainment with food, live music, vendors, and a “no hassle” car show hosted by The Tulsa Vette Set will also be held. The general public is invited to join all the Cherokee Casino festivities at no charge.
The main focus of this event is to raise as much money as possible for cancer research and have a really good time doing it!
Cherokee Casino is one of the nicest entertainment facilities in the state before you add all the flamed paint jobs and chrome in the parking lot. You can imagine the possibilities that this event has to offer for those that love “good rides.”
Cancer Sucks has some very loyal corporate sponsors that pay all overhead expenses for events, making it possible for every penny to be donated to cancer research! Cancer Sucks and all of the dedicated volunteers would like to recognize Cherokee Casino and all of sponsors for supporting the effort to cure cancer.
The website at www.CancerSucks.com is available for those wanting to sign up on line and avoid the lines to register on the day of the poker run. The first 100 registered participants are entitled to a free event t-shirt and the first 500 registered to $20.00 casino cash.
Cancer Sucks Incorporated is a non profit organization dedicated to the memory of Donna Holland White who lost her battle with cancer a few days before Mothers Day on May 6, 1996. While undergoing treatments for cancer Donna made arrangements to have her body donated to cancer research at the time of her death. Cancer Sucks is our way of following her example and the organization launched through the website www.CancerSucks.com has evolved into a 501 c 3 non profit organization responsible for donating over $100,000.00 in 2005 alone.
Cancer Sucks is guided by a simple mission statement: "provide a forum for those who have lost loved ones to cancer while aggressively raising money to find a cure. No one should have to go through what the millions of cancer victims, survivors and those left behind have endured."
