Oilers run the bulls 6-2
5-goal second period seals Tulsa victory.
TULSA, OK-- It’s a cliché’ but it bears mentioning when it comes to the last two hockey games played by the Tulsa Oilers: What a difference a day makes.
Last night in Allen Texas, the Americans, who are the first placed team in the CHL’s Berry Conference, lit the Oilers up by a score of 10-1 tossing some 47 shots at Oilers goalie Ian Keserich. Oilers coach Bruce Ramsay was tossed in the second period for questioning a non-call by CHL referee Kevin Webinger when Jason Weeks was pulled down in a situation that would have demanded a penalty shot after one had been called on the Oilers a few plays earlier.
It was with that considerable chip on their shoulder, not to mention that the loss dropped them into a tie for 3rd place in the conference with today’s opponent, the Texas Brahmas, that sparked the demons of Denver Avenue to do something very special in the friendly confines of the amazing BOK Center.
After Jack Combs snuck the puck past Brahmas goalie Jeff Harvey at 4:10 of the first the Oilers unleashed a flood of 5 goals in the second period, a season high so far. Two goals from Mike Beausoliel, a second goal from Jack Combs and a goal each from Derek Eastman and Chad Costello capped off a brilliant period from Tulsa, who also outshot Texas a remarkable 17-6 in the period, nearly equaling the total shots they had IN THE ENTIRE GAME on Friday night.
Texas would only score twice, Chad Wollard and Matt Lawrence getting the goals both in the third period, but it was too little, too late for the Brahmas who dropped to 5th place in the Berry Conference and a record of 14-11-3 with 31 points. The Oilers return to .500 with a 16-16-1, 33 point record and sole possession of 3rd place.
The Oilers will return to action tomorrow for a 4:05pm start against the Allen Americans in the BOK Center.
