RSU holds contest for new fight song lyrics
Rogers State University wants you to write lyrics for a new Hillcats fight song.
Since becoming the Hillcats, RSU has not had an official fight song for use at athletic events and university functions.
All members of the RSU family - students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of RSU – are invited to submit lyrics for the new fight song. The winning entry will receive a $250 gift card to Barnes & Noble.
Dr. Kirk Weller took over the school’s band program last fall. Since his arrival, the band has adopted the music of the “Oklahoma Military Academy March,” the fight song of RSU’s predecessor institution. He said the addition of new lyrics would be an opportunity to join the university’s proud history with its promising future.
“Fight songs are designed to be a symbol of school pride,” he said. “I think it’s fitting to couple the OMA March with new lyrics because we should all take a great deal of pride in RSU’s past and, at the same time, be very excited about the university’s future.”
An audio recording and rules for the contest can be found online at http://www.rsu.edu/traditions/fightsong.asp.
The new fight song will be unveiled between the final RSU home basketball games against Southern Nazarene University on Feb. 17. Tipoff for the women’s game is 6 p.m. and the men begin at 8 p.m.
