Tulsa Oilers rout Arizona 9-3.
TULSA, OK-- It goes without saying that the Tulsa Oilers needed a dominating win, and they got it on Friday night.
In their first game since the CHL All-Star break the Oilers turned in a dominating performance over the Arizona Sundogs, with Oilers scoring wizards Jack Combs and Chad Costello combining for 5 goals between them, with Combs notching the teams first hat trick of the season.
The goals came in bursts in the contest, with Tulsa jumping out to a 3-0 lead with all those goals coming within a minute and change. The pivotal period was the second, when the Oilers punched the puck home four times on Sundog goalie Levante Szuper, who after Anthony Battaglia scored the fourgave way to former Oklahoma City Blazers goalie Doug Groenstege.
Combs completed his hat trick in the third period, and Derek Eastman scored his 9th goal of the season, in the third to complete what to date has been the most goals scored in the BOK Center since the move from the Tulsa Convention Center. It’s also the largest margin of victory since February 2008 when the Oilers topped the Mississippi Riverkings 10-3. Overall the victory was a needed boost for Tulsa, who have went 2-2 since the beginning of January.
Tonight, the Oilers host the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs, who are second in the Berry Conference and who were blanked 3-0 by the Allen Americans last night.
