Colorado gives the Oilers a reality check.

Jack Combs scores the Oilers only goal as Eagles end Tulsa’s win streak at four.

TULSA, OK-- They’ve knocked off some big teams in the CHL this season, but the Tulsa Oilers could not solve the league’s perennial powerhouse team, the Colorado Eagles as they handed them a decisive 4-1 defeat on Tuesday night in the BOK Center in front of a crowd of 3,642.

The Eagles Adam Chornyenko and Aaron Schneekloth scored in the 11th minute of the first period, and in the third period Adam Hogg made it a 3-0 shutout until the 7:19 mark when Jack Combs of the Oilers ruined Colorado goalie Kyle Jones near perfect performance when he stuffed the puck through him for the lone Tulsa goal with Chad Costello and Derek Eastman.

Riley Nelson tapped in an empty net goal with a little less than a minute left to slam the door shut on what was essentially a boring game. There were no serious penalties called and for much of the game the Oilers looked as if they were skating through syrup. The Eagles peppered Tulsa goalie Trevor Cann with 41 shots, of which he stopped 38 while his counterpart Kyle Jones stopped 25 of the Oilers 26 shots.

Despite the loss the Oilers standings position in the Berry Conference remains unchanged, but now they are tied with Odessa for third place with 43 points, three points behind the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs who after defeating the Texas Brahmas 6-2 tonight now have 46 points and sole possession of second place in the conference.

A home-and-home series with the Missouri Maverick looms large this weekend for the Oilers, a team they have yet to defeat this season either at home or on the road.

Ian Keserich Goalie of the Week for the second time this season.

Before the game on Tuesday night it was announced by the league office that Oilers goalie Ian Keserich is the CHL Goalie of the Week, presented by Oakley for the second time this season. He last received the honor for the week of December 6-12, 2010.

Keserich won his only decision of the week in a 2-1 shootout victory in Texas versus the Brahmas making 34 saves. The previous night, Keserich replaced Trevor Cann (illness) after the first period and stopped all 23 shots he faced in the Oilers 6-1 victory over Laredo. In the shootout win against Texas, Keserich stopped all five shooters he faced in the extra session making him 20 for 22 in shooters stopped this season (first in the CHL for goaltenders that have faced more than five shooters.).

Since joining Tulsa in early November, the 6-2, 200-pound netminder is 14-10-0 with a .907 save percentage. When he replaced Cann, it was the first action he had seen since January 2. Oilers goaltenders have now won the weekly award three times as Cann earned the honor after the first week of the season.
