Tulsa no nightmare for Atlanta Dream.
TULSA, OK-- It’s an old sports cliché but right now, but when you have a 1-14 record at the middle of the season, you are playing for respect. The high points have been few and far between for the Tulsa Shock but interim Head Coach Teresa Edwards and her 11-ladies continue to fight on and try to salvage a season that has been a true nightmare on so many levels.
After Elizabeth Cambage put up decent numbers at last Saturday’s WNBA All-Star Game in San Antonio, scoring some 13 points through 11 minutes of play. She was the first player in Tulsa Shock history to attend the WNBA All -Star Game.
Well-rested and eager to get win #2, the Shock hosted former OU standout Courtney Paris and the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday night. The Dream came into the game 6-9 and on a three-game win streak.
The Shock put up a good fight, but fell to Dream 76-68. Atlanta forward Angel McCoughtry led all scorers with 37points, going 11-of-22 from the floor and draining 15-of-19 from the free throw line. Sheryl Swoopes, who was recently named one of the WNBA’s 15 Greatest Players at the All Star Game, was second in points for Tulsa, going 4-of-9 from the floor and a near perfect two out of three 3-point shots.
The Dream improved to 7-9 on the season while the Shock fall to 1-15. The Shock host the Chicago Sky in game two in the three-game home stand on Thursday night.
