Several street closings may pose challenges for Tulsa drivers this weekend, as a number of special events draw crowds to the area. Police urge drivers not coming to watch or participate in these events to avoid these areas engaged in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade and The 50th Anniversary Street Party in downtown Tulsa both Saturday.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, near 1500 North Cincinnati Avenue. More than 7,000 are expected to attend the annual MLK Jr. Commemoration Society event.
The parade route – Pine Street between Cincinnati Avenue (start) and Greenwood Avenue, and Greenwood Avenue between Pine and Archer Streets (end) – will be closed from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
Cincinnati Avenue, Boston Place and Boston Avenue between Queen and Newton Streets, Oklahoma Street between Main Street and Cincinnati Avenue, and Pine Street between Main Street and Elgin Avenue will be closed from noon to 4 p.m. for the staging area. The disbanding area – Archer Street between Lansing Avenue and Elgin Avenue and Greenwood Avenue between Archer Street and Second Street – will be closed from 2 to 5:30 p.m.
50th Anniversary Street Party
Crowds in excess of 3,000 are expected to attend and enjoy the The 50th Anniversary Street Party in downtown Tulsa on Saturday. The Tulsa Ballet fundraiser event begins at 6 p.m. and ends at midnight.
Third Street between Cincinnati Avenue and Main Street and Boston Avenue between Third and Fourth Street will be closed from 2 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday.
