Google Doodle Oklahoma Winner

Another talented Oklahoman has produced a work of art that you can vote for online which, if she wins, could fund a good part of her education. 

The challenge as outlined by Google was to visualize “Doodle 4 Google 2012: If I could travel in time, I'd visit...” which Oklahoman Janessa Chastain, a 2nd grader at Maryetta Elementary School in Stilwell answered.  Her winning work selected as the best from Oklahoma and is pictured with this story.

The 50 State Winners were chosen from over 114,000 entries, the State Winners represent the top doodles from this year's contest. Online votes help decide who goes on to become the National Winner.  The votes will be tallied between May 2nd - 10th and you may vote by clicking here.

One lucky student artist will see their artwork appear on the Google homepage and take home some great prizes (including one for her school).  The winning artwork will also appear on a limited edition of Crayola’s iconic 64 box!  The winner will be awarded a $30,000 college scholarship to be used at a school of their choice, a trip to New York for an event on May 17, 2012, a Google Chromebook computer, a Wacom digital design tablet, and a t-shirt printed with his or her doodle on it.  The winner's full time school will receive a $50,000 technology grant towards the establishment or improvement of a computer lab or technology programming.

Each of the other four National Finalists will win a $5,000 college scholarship to be used at the school of their choice, a trip to New York for the final event on May 17, 2012, a Wacom digital design tablet, and a t-shirt printed with their doodle on it.

Following U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe’s (R-Okla.) tour of a new Google facility in Pryor, Okla. yesterday, he congratulated Chastain for being named the state finalist.

“I’m pleased that Janessa is a finalist in the nationwide Doodle 4 Google competition,” said Inhofe. “Even at a young age, Janessa’s artwork shows creativity and true talent – worthy of this top honor. I encourage all Oklahomans to go online and vote for her to receive this award.  I was also pleased to visit the Google facility in Pryor.  They have a great facility there with quality jobs.”
