TMM forum: faithful response to "gun violence"
The Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry in a recent press release declares that "gun violence" is a catalyst for conversation - a contradiction as guns cannot be violent - guns are inanimate.
The stated goal is to "have a conversation take place through the minds of faithful people, who may well have different opinions on gun control, or gun rights or reasons for so much gun violence, but who wish to bring HOPE to the destruction and despair that is caused by gun violence.
"No responsible, faithful person wants to see violence of any sort brought upon our neighbors or families. What is the hope that faithful people can bring to our community when the reality of violence is ever before us, be it gun violence or domestic violence or verbal violence or violence brought by abuses of power? We believe that there is hope for a different response to conflict, lack of trust, power imbalances, or danger than violent actions by one person upon another," the release says.
The public is invited. The event will be held Sunday April 21, 2013 from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1442 S Quaker Ave, Tulsa, OK (on Cherry Street).
