"Go Green" Expo This Saturday
The 2009 Go!Green Expo will be held this Saturday and provide information on saving money and helping the environment.
The free Expo will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the University of Tulsa’s Allen Chapman Activity Center, 440 South Gary.
Mayor Kathy Taylor will open the event at 9 a.m. and introduce the keynote speaker, Mayor Patrick Hays of North Little Rock. That city is a member of ICLEI, a key organization in leading local governments toward sustainability. Hays is ICLEI’s president-elect.
At 4:30 p.m. Steve Hewitt, city administrator of Greensburg, KS, will speak. Greensburg was 95 percent destroyed in a May 4, 2007, tornado and is resurrecting itself "green." The city has become a model for sustainable communities.
The remainder of the morning and early afternoon will feature information-filled seminars led by regional experts. The seminars are designed to help people learn how to take action to reduce energy and water costs while benefitting Oklahoma’s environment and the Earth.
Designed around three information tracks (Green Building, Green City and Green Living), Expo presenters will address three focus topics: Energy, Recycling and Water. Concurrent exhibits will feature products, services and organizations that promote sustainability.
Pre-registration is encouraged, prior to Sept. 11. For additional information and registration please visit the AIA Eastern Oklahoma’s website www.aiaeok.org, or www.BeGreenTulsa.org .
