Ethanol-blend fuel debuts in Tulsa
Ethanol-blended gasoline is now available at Murphy USA stations in the Tulsa area, bringing the city one step closer to diversifying the area fuel supply with alternative and renewable fuels.
Ethanol – a renewable fuel made from fermented agricultural products such as corn – contains oxygen, which provides a cleaner and more efficient burning fuel. When used in vehicles, ethanol reduces carbon dioxide, a major contributor to air pollution.
The most common ethanol-blend fuel is E10, which contains 10 percent ethanol and 90 percent gasoline. All motor vehicles manufactured since the 1970’s can run on up to a 10 percent blend without making changes to the motors of current-model automobiles.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Oct. 2, Mayor Kathy Taylor joined representatives from Tulsa Clean Cities and the Indian Nations Council of Governments in congratulating Murphy Oil Corporation for bringing the fuel to Tulsa.
“Today, we are 10 percent closer to relying on fuels produced domestically for our energy needs,” Mayor Taylor said. “Ethanol increases the choices in our energy basket locally.”
