Tulsa art exhibition opens Thursday
M.A. Doran Gallery opens its annual Fall exhibition, Thursday September 13 featuring new paintings by Christopher Westfall in conjunction with New Works by Gallery Artists. The exhibition includes paintings, sculpture, photography, and American crafts.
Christopher Westfall, a self-taught artist, is known primarily for his paintings of recognizable Tulsa locations. Cafes, restaurants, historic buildings and popular avenues are portrayed with a timeless quality, reminding those familiar with Tulsa of the city’s enduring charm. Westfall has a talent for capturing an instant, allowing the viewer to feel as if he or she is at the scene at that particular moment in time. This in-the- moment effect is enhanced by the artist’s incorporation of streetlights, driving cars, or neon signs. Their vibrating reflections are alive on the seemingly wet streets and glossy windows. Westfall’s paintings are a testimony to the beauty of Tulsa and its unique appeal gallery officials say.
Westfall is a self-taught artist who began painting and showing his work at fifteen. Since then, his work has been accepted into many national juried competitions. Westfall’s work can be found in several private and corporate collections.
In conjunction with Westfall’s central exhibition, numerous artists from the gallery will be showcasing new work in a variety of mediums and genres. Both local and national artists will be represented, providing a broad range of talent.
The public is invited to attend the artist’s reception, Thursday, September 13th, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Artists will be present at the opening.
