Memorial Day 2015
Breitbart.com reminds us the easiest way to pay a debt of gratitude is with respect and commemoration.
On Memorial Day, remember to pause for a minute of silent honor at 3 PM, local time.
Memorial Day is still officially known as Decoration Day. It is a day to remember those who have died in all of our wars. There are many commemorations across America and in our territories. Do most Americans really know and act appropriately on Memorial Day — or has it just become the unofficial start of summer?
You might be surprised by the Democrat remembrance included in the story here.
Governor Mary Fallin's statement on the Memorial Day Holiday requests prayer as she wrote, “This Memorial Day, please join me in praying for the many Americans who have lost their lives while serving their country. It is their sacrifices – as well as the sacrifices made by all of our veterans, active duty military personnel and their families – that allow us to be a nation of freedom and prosperity.”
Rep. Steve Russell (R-OK)
Freshman Oklahoma Congressman Russell offers this: “Today, I would like for everyone to reflect on those who have served our country and sacrificed their lives, so that we may live ours enjoying liberty and peace.
As a 21-year Army veteran, I had the honor and privilege of serving with some of the finest soldiers I could imagine, and I believe that current servicemen and women deserve recognition– but Memorial Day is specifically designated for our fallen heroes. In my service, I had soldiers die alongside me in battle, and I knew of many others who gave their lives to protect our country. These soldiers, as well as all who have served and died for our country throughout our history, are who we honor today. May we remember their bravery, their dedication, and their sacrifice, and thank them for protecting our country so that we may live for a brighter future.”
U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in remembrance of those military members whose lives were lost in the line of duty and in recognition of Memorial Day 2015:
"As American families celebrate the unofficial start of the summer season this Memorial Day weekend, may we also remember that our freedom and very existence of this great country is due to the sacrifices of the men and women who have worn and continue to wear the uniform.
Sen. Inhofe with Oklahoma's Army National Guard
"From the Civil War to today, this nation and its people have set aside one day each year to remember and honor our military members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Out of respect to them, the lives they led, and families they left behind, we pause this Memorial Day to remember and say 'thank you.'
"On this Memorial Day, we especially mourn the Oklahomans from across our state who have died in defense of our nation, most recently in Iraq and Afghanistan. Though their lives were cut short, their memory and legacy lives on through our freedom and democracy."
