Revolution still alive
TULSA, OK.— They haven’t played a home game since the beginning of December.
They haven’t won a game since the middle of November.
The fired their coach and they moved out of the downtown Cox Business Center arena, which was their home since last season and forfeited a game last weekend against Chicago.
Despite all that, the Tulsa Revolution indoor soccer team are not folding.
Team management released a statement to that effect on Wednesday and it read, in part:
“There has been a lot of speculation about the team folding before the end of the season, we are happy to say that is not true. We have had our fair share of difficulties, and more than we ever wanted. Last weekend we had to cancel the game against the Chicago Mustangs due to complications moving the turf from the Cox Business Center to the Pavilion. However, we have now been able to secure what we needed to finish out this season. We will be playing at home for the next three weeks after a very long time on the road.”
“The MASL is a tough league and much tougher than we had anticipated. Our goal for the Revolution is for it to become a self-sustaining ball club. This is not an easy task and there will be plenty more ups and downs before that happens. But with hard work, determination, and sacrifice, we believe pro indoor soccer can be a part of Tulsa’s sporting culture for many years to come.
We would like to thank our fans for standing by us while we are going through these growing pains and difficulties, our sponsors for supporting us and helping bring and keep indoor soccer in Tulsa, and of course the MASL for their hard work and dedication to its teams.”
It does not say, however what the team will do once the 2014-15 MASL season concludes, and though the immediate future of the team is reasonably secure it remains unclear what lies ahead for the Revolution in the seasons to come, if they decide to continue. That said, a season that started with such promise in November is now a train wreck, for lack of a better term.
Either way, the new journey begins tonight at 7:05pm when the Revolution return to their new home pitch at the Pavilion for a match against one of the two MASL Mexican teams, Rancho Saltillo Seco. Alex Miranda will make his home debut at the Revolution’s interim head coach and immediately after the match the Revolution’s premier team will take on the Wichita B52’s premier team.
Expo Pavilion
Tickets are a bargain at $5 a seat and all tickets that were sold for the match against Chicago last week will be honored. The best part is that unlike the parking structures surrounding the Cox Business Center, on the Fairgrounds, parking is free.
