Theatre Tulsa announces 93rd season

Theatre Tulsa announced its full slate of shows today for its historic 93rd season.

“We’re thrilled to announce a huge and varied season of 10 productions,” said Sara Phoenix, artistic director of Theatre Tulsa. “From massive musicals to intimate dramas to family-friendly shows, we have something for anyone who enjoys high-quality local theatre.”

The theatre company will kick off its mainstage “Broadway Series” season with the epic musical “Miss Saigon,” the pop-infused love story of an American soldier and a Vietnamese girl, set during the tumultuous Vietnam War. With music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr. and Alain Boublil – the original creators of “Les Misérables,” the show is known as one of the must stunning spectacles in theatre history. It will run Sept. 4-20.

The season will continue with “The Great Gatsby,” the great American of story of love, loss and Gilded Age excess. This adaptation by Simon Levy, the only one officially sanctioned by the estate of F. Scott Fitzgerald, will run Nov. 13-22.

The new year will kick off with “A Chorus Line,” one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history. This production, written by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante and featuring music by Marvin Hamlish with lyrics by Edward Kleban, is the Tulsa production in more than a decade. The show will run Jan. 15-23, 2016.

Next up is French sex farce “Don’t Dress for Dinner,” the fast-paced sequel to “Boeing-Boeing,” a hit comedy produced by Theatre Tulsa during its 90th season. It will run Feb. 19-28, 2016

The fifth and final “Broadway Series” production will be “Fiddler on the Roof,” the all-time classic tale of faith, family, and tradition. Mark Frie, who played Jean Valjean in Theatre Tulsa’s production of Les Misérables last season, will star as Tevye. That show will run April 15-30, 2016.

Theatre Tulsa’s New Stage series will include two shows. “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is John Cameron Mitchell’s cult classic rock musical featuring East German rock goddess Hedwig Schmidt, running Oct. 23 through Nov. 1. “The Flick” will be the Oklahoma premiere of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize winning comedy-drama set in a run-down movie theatre. It will run March 11-20.

Theatre Tulsa New Stage is a season add-on series designed to bring the most groundbreaking, thoughtprovoking, and critically acclaimed work in contemporary theatre to Oklahoma.

Theatre Tulsa’s Family series will include three shows by the company’s Broadway Bootcamp youth performers. It will begin with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats,” another long-running Broadway hit, July 16-19. A special holiday show soon to be announced will run Dec. 18-23. The series will conclude with a spring production of “Bye Bye Birdie” May 13-22, 2016.

Theatre Tulsa Family is another season add-on presenting fully staged, family friendly productions by graduates of the company’s youth education programs.

Subscriptions to the Theatre Tulsa’s “Broadway Series” are currently available, along with the “Theatre Tulsa New Stage” and “Theatre Tulsa Family” add-ons. “Pick 4” and “pick 3” flexible subscription packages are also available, allowing subscribers to select their specific shows from the entire list of 10 productions.
