Hello, do you have any take on the Tulsa mayoral race? GOP roster doesn't look very impressive and the local party officials seem to be focusing entirely on their trip to the national convention.
The three running are Karen Keith, Monroe Nichols, and Brent VanNorman. Keith and Nichols are Democrats. Keith, currently a County Commissioner (Dist. 2), is considered the best know from her time as a TV talking head. She was a major force in the establishment of the new Juvenile Justice Center and has faced criticism for it's operational failures from Nichols as covered by the Leftist Daily Rag. I have requested an interview with Keith and await response. Next week, I hope to interview Nichols, but time will tell. VanNorman is a Republican. and I covered two of his public speeches here: https://www.tulsatoday.com/2024/06/23/brent-vannorman-readies-for-mayor/ and plan a longer interview with him soon. Keith has attacked the Tulsa County Sheriff's contract with ICE to remove criminal invaders and was a huge fan of locking down freedom (churches and small businesses) during COVID. I opposed those policy positions and the Tulsa Today site contains a search feature that you can use to find those stories. I have long considered Keith a friend but her failure to respond and her campaign managers demand for my questions in advance may be a "Biden-like" effort to control her public narrative. If I must, I can write on campaigns from their public records and campaign materials, but such failures to communicate tends to make writers cranky. If subscribers here are interested in the city government of Oklahoma's Bitter Blueberry Capital, like this post and I will write more on this platform. More detailed coverage on Tulsa metro issues most often appears on www.TulsaToday.com.
I've gone back and read your article about Van Norman and concede that he sounds OK but I'm concerned about his level of commitment to this race. His campaign appears to lack any online presence (how hard would it be to create a Facebook page for his campaign? maybe one exists and it's being buried by the algorithm) and he doesn't seem to be sending out any mailings (have only received a solicitation from Monroe Nichols so far). This is recurrent problem - I have received plenty of solicitations from Democrats over the course of the last couple of years and have yet to receive any mailings from a Republican candidate. I recall also that there was a state senate / house race a couple of years ago to represent Tulsa in the state legislature and the Republican candidate went inexplicably AWOL with no explanation from local GOP - race was ultimately won by one Amanda Swope if I recall. Anyway thanks for your feedback. I greatly appreciate your blog and will vote for Van Norman for what it's worth but I don't understand the passivity of the Tulsa GOP and their candidates. It's really baffling.
The grassroots are crawling up the legs of the OKGOP "leaders" like a righteously angry vine. You love to see it.
